"Sparks" for guitar and muted trumpet.
This is a peculiar duet. It is not very common to see these two instruments playing together. I envisioned this scenario at a roadside gas station in Andalusia. While I was filling my tank, I saw a guitarist playing under the open sky in front of a mechanic shop. Somebody was cheering on and singing and dancing while holding a drinking jug from which he drank during still moments while the guitarist strummed and hammered scales, stabbing his thumb in the strings...and behind; the peculiar Andalucian land planted with neverending olive trees. Jaén in the background. This picture inspired me to write a dialog between these two instruments. The music was composed as if it were an impromptu performance between the two. It consists of four parts: Prelude- Interlude I- Interlude II and Postlude. They are minimal musical sparks that help one another in the mission that aptly describes the title they bear.
The whole of the work is informal, except for the third spark, which is a Humoresque composed by means of 12 sounds going through a mathematical process that generates all the sounds from the Interlude, in the same integral serial form used in the beginning of the 20th century.
CD available at "i tunes" performed by guitar virtuoso Adam Levin and Pablo J. Heras Moral at the trumpet. https://itunes.apple.com/ee/album/music-from-out-of-time/id439015531
