"Serenading the Earth" (1988) (rev.2004)
1. Earth.- (Land) - GEA.
Audio recordings were recorded in the original version for string quartet by students at the Aspen Music Festival, Colorado, in July 1988)
Program Notes 2004 premiere at the Festival of Spanish Music of Leon.
Youth work, created in the years of composition student at the Aspen Festival 1987. Initially composed for string quartet was premiered at the Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center in New York in spring 1989 in its original shorter version by The Broadway String Quartet, consisting of advanced students.
It was from this release when he began to develop the idea of turning it into a work for string orchestra. The work was composed in the following months and performed informally, this time in quintet format, (with bass), in a classroom of a professional music school. This version has been extracted all the material of the work that will finally see the light as premiere in its final format, camerata string this July 2004 under the Spanish Music Festival in the city of Leon.
Serenade earth is the work of a child, one of the most beloved works for my youth. With a degree in English "Serenading The Earth" translates as; "Singing serenades to the earth." It is therefore try, a musical journey through the four elements of the world constituted in ancient Greece. Earth, water, air and fire .A tribute to the earth.
After a work of re-editing and thorough review, respecting the original, fresh and simple language, young and enthusiastic inspiration, he has resulted in a camerata about 20 minutes long in four movements and epiíogo that closes the piece with character solemn, almost tragic and pessimistic, as awareness of the multiple dangers that threaten the health of our planet.
As a programmatic divertimento, each element or musical movomiento, explores a tempo, an air and different and contrasting musical form each other.
Being quite complicated and difficult in execution, also abound formal and instrumentation experiments with textures sometimes little recommended for rope for its difficulty., Use of ideas interspersed with inspirational music Jazz and certain boldness of material exposed no development. Stand in turn using the Greek modes on scales differ movements each other and the contrapuntal character that unifies all the work.
